Abdominal Therapy & Pregnancy & Postnatal Support

Abdominal therapy is a wonderful treatment during pregnancy and can help alleviate some of the conditions that cause discomfort and pain that some women suffer from during this time. I can work with clients from 20 weeks and postnatal support is available too. There is also a separate handout for a modified pregnancy self care in the client area

The treatment rebalances the body and works on all the areas where our body is really feeling the changes of pregnancy.

Postnatally this treatment I feel should be available to anyone. It provides a very important opportunity to have space to talk about your birthing experience, how you are coping as a mum and the many changes that have occurred within your body, mind and spirit. Our bodies tend to feel like someone else’s after we’ve had a baby so reconnecting with your tummy in particular and seeing what feels different is really beneficial.

I always recommend clients also see a women’s health physio at this stage for a thorough consultation and assessment of your pelvic floor and any possible diastasis (abdominal separation) and a c-section scar if you have had one. This treatment works hand in hand with physio at this stage and can really help you regain confidence and prevent long term problems.

A list of women’s health physios I would recommend is coming soon, but for now please feel free to get in touch for my recommendations.

Regardless of the type of birth you have had this treatment can help, when we think about what our bodies have gone through and then how little support we get especially during the initial 6 week postpartum, where in other cultures women are supported to rest, heal and feed their baby, it can be a very daunting knowing what feels right or not and even having the time to think about it. I believe we are postnatal for the rest of our lives after giving birth, so much changes we have to look at ourselves and our bodies differently to help them heal. Nutrition is also crucial in this process and eating the right foods, staying very well hydrated and supplementing what's been depleted is all part of the picture of self care.
